History

　　Emerson & Cuming was founded by C.L. Emerson and W.R. Cuming in 1948. During its early history, the company embarked on government sponsored microwave materials research and development programs primarily for military applications. Years later, a transfer of materials technology from military to the commercial communications market fueled the growth of the company and the evolution of the ECCOSORB^® product line was introduced.

　　In 1978, the company was purchased by W.R Grace & Company. During the W.R. Grace years, covering the period from 1978-1996, the company used a more focused business approach and developed a quality and accounting infrastructure that is still present today. This management system has served to leverage the company’s technology focus into a successful, long-term business model. The US operation is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Microwave Materials Group, N.V. located in Westerlo, Belgium.
